Mary DohertyMary Doherty, born in the peninsula of Inishowen in County Donegal, developed an interest in her cultural background at an early age. Inishowen is rich in history with stone circles and megalithic tombs dating back to pre-Christian times. This area has a vast bogland which was once a giant forest dating back over six thousand years. It is from this ancient wood that Mary draws her inspiration. Mary sees the bogwood as a treasure waiting to be sculpted...she took a wood-working course and is now famous throughout Ireland for her enchanting bogwood sculptures.
