Spires Gallery Presents original cottage paintings and a limited edtion stamp collection as Featured in the Spirit of Ireland

Irish Art Gifts Spires Gallery is proud to offer the fourth series of Irish definitive stamps on the theme of "Irish Heritage and Treasures." An Post is indebted to The National Museum of Ireland for assistance in choosing the objects featured. The stamps were designed by Q Design and feature original line drawings by Michael Craig.

Seamus McKenna, a 37 year old Belfast artist, paints with a distinctive style. He spreads gold or silver leaf across the canvas before adding vibrant colours and then scrapes off some of the paint to allow the precious metal to shine through. This technique gives his work an unusual depth, and he admits that colour is the key to his painting. "Using gold or silver leaf allows me to express myself, and get to the core of my paintings," he says. "I don't create a finished masterpiece-I strip the layers back to the core, and allow the paint to do the work. Colour is what it's all about for me. I love the vibrancy, the liveliness of colours, and how they sit together."
